Alva Overby House, 78, of Paducah, KY passed away at 11:57 am Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Baptist Health Paducah.
Alva was born in Norwood, Ohio on August 30, 1940 to George D. Gregory and Flo M. White. Alva was a 1958 graduate of Norwood High School and went on to graduate from Paducah Community College. Alva moved to Paducah in 1965 and began her career working in several dental offices. She spent much of her career working for Dr. Robert Morris and retired from the office of Dr. Jeffrey Holland.
She was an active member of Paducah First Baptist Church where she was a co-director of the 55+ Senior Ministry. She was a Paducah Ambassador, the first volunteer coordinator of the Luther F. Carson Four Rivers Center, a member of the Lone Oak Lions Club, and a volunteer at Baptist Health in Paducah. She recently received her 6000 hours pin from the Auxillary for her service. Alva was a volunteer at the AQS Museum, was named a Paducah Duchess and received a Kentucky Colonel Award. She had many hobbies and enjoyed crafts, scrap booking, shopping with the girls, and planning church trips with her husband and Marie Jackson.
Alva is survived by her son, David Allen Overby of Paducah; her grandson, James-Robert Tyler Overby of Paducah; a brother, Floyd Gregory (Naty) of Oracle, Arizona; two nephews, Larry Crenshaw (Cindy) of Littleton, Colorado and Jimmy Hicks (Rickie) of Paducah; one niece, Teresa Hicks Stone of Paducah; four great-nephews, three great-great-nephews, and three great-great-nieces.
Alva also considered Wanda Tubbs (Danny) a sister and fell in love with her family. Alva could not resist one of Wanda’s coconut pies and always said she was going to fix one as good (but it never happened.)
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert, her second husband, Carl, her parents, her brother, Paul, and a sister, Virginia.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm on Tueday, February 19, 2019 in the sanctuary of Paducah First Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Moore and Rev. Tommy Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, February 18, 2019 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 am until the 12:00 pm service time on Tuesday, February 19. 2019 at Paducah First Baptist Church.
