Funeral services for Anthony Markgraf, 63, of Paducah will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Reidland United Methodist Church. Rev. Sky McCracken will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
He died Monday, May 4, 2009, at Western Baptist Hospital.
Anthony and his wife, Connie, own and operate Kingsway Skateland, which they built in 1973. He was the President of the Roller Skating Rink Operators of America in 1990-1991 and received the Life Membership Award. He held many offices within this association and spoke at several conventions. He was past President of Paducah Rotary Club, Past Chairman of Southside Area Merchants, Paducah Chamber of Commerce Board, 4-H Council, McCracken County Red Cross, Merit Badge Counselor for Boy Scouts, Duke of Paducah, and Kentucky Colonel. He was United States Olympic Training Center Roller Hockey Coach and Coach of the Year.
He had been an active member of Reidland United Methodist Church for over 35 years, serving on the Administrative Board, Council of Ministries, and Sunday School teacher and lay speaker. He received his B.A. from Park University in Parkville, Mo., in 1972.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Connie Perry Markgraf; daughter Kari Markgraf Long (William Aaron) of Lexington, Ky.; two sons, Christopher Eric Markgraf (Christy Jannett) of Spring Hill, Tenn., and Derek Paul Markgraf (Leah Renee) of Paducah; one sister, Barbara Ann Hertlein (Frederick Paul) of Kevil, Ky.; and five grandchildren, Chase Aaron Long, Dawson Phoenix Markgraf, Ashton Riley Long, Madelynne Celeste Markgraf, and Aiden August Markgraf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August A. and Gladys Clopton Markgraf.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah and after noon Thursday at the church.
