Carol Leigh Buford, 52, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Paducah, Ky., took the hand of her guardian angel, as she went to her heavenly home on Monday, July 5, 2010, at 2:40 a.m. She fought a valiant fight against carcinoid liver cancer.
Mrs. Buford was a 1976 graduate of Lone Oak High School in Paducah, Ky. For 20 years she owned and operated Security Taxicab Inc., a regional transportation company with her husband. She personally transported many seriously ill children to Louisville and Nashville for treatment. Carol most recently worked in the Dietary Department at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Ky. She was a member of Lone Oak Church of Christ in Paducah, Ky., and Westport Road Church of Christ in Louisville, Ky. She often volunteered to work in the nursery, prepare food and assist with Vacation Bible School. Her interests included the Lioness Club, where she was the Treasurer for 10 years, Girl Scout Leader, bowling leagues, her beloved Shetland Sheepdog "Happy" and assisting the visually impaired community with transportation.
She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Darrell Buford; her daughter, Katie Buford; her son, Kevin Buford; and her mother, Bettie Krone Stom.
Preceding her in death were her father, Hardie Stom, and her sister, Mollie Sullenger.
The celebration of life service will be at Lone Oak Church of Christ at 2 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2010, with Ministers Paul Wingfield and Arnis Pape officiating, with singing being led by Randy Baumgardner. Entombment will follow at Chapel Mausoleum in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Hughes Funeral Home of Paducah and from 12:30 p.m. until the service hour at the church on Friday.
For friends and co-workers in Louisville, Ky., a memorial service will be held at the Westport Road Church of Christ in Louisville, Ky., Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 6 p.m., with Minister Arnis Pape officiating.
