David E. Carter, 82, of Paducah passed away at 7:45 a.m. February 20, 2010, at Health Park Medical Center in Fort Myers, Fla.
Mr. Carter was born May 25, 1927, in Martin Township, Illinois, to the late Samuel Jackson Carter and Addie Lee Logsdon Carter.
He formerly owned Carter Auto Sales, C&H Garage Builders, Murray Mobile Home Sales and Wheel Estate Mobile Home Movers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on a mine sweeper in the Pacific in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Carter served the public as your local Ky. State Representative in the early '70s. He was involved in many phases of politics for a number of years and helped many people through his political connections. He was a former member of Paducah Masonic Lodge #449 and a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Carter; one grandson, Donnie Ellis; three sisters, Josie Carter, Jean Lee and Lettie Schoumaker; and one brother, Jessie Carter.
He is survived by his sons, Doug Carter and wife Joyce, Steve Carter and Philip Carter, all of Paducah; six grandchildren, Kevin Carter, Brent Carter, Doug Carter, Stephanie Carter, Derick Carter and Justin Carter; nine great-grandchildren, Alexis Ransom, Alex Carter, Tanner Carter, Kaitlyn Carter, Alyssa Carter, Makenna Carter, Norah Carter, Ty Carter and Eli Carter; two brothers, Sam Carter of Kuttawa and Jerry Carter of Paducah; and four sisters, Pauline Sullivan, Nellie Carpenter and Martha Oatley, all of Kokomo, Indiana, and Omega Curtin of Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is also survived by his special companion, Ada Weinberg, and several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Services for Mr. Carter will be held Thursday, February 25, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Williams and Rev. Dewayne Franklin officiating. Burial with full military graveside rites will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 24, 2010, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Hughes Funeral Home.
