Everett "Jerry" Carter, 79, of Paducah went to be with the Lord August 9, 2011, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Ky., as a result of a massive stroke after surgery.
He was a remarkable man who unconditionally loved family, friends and especially children. He gave of himself unselfishly, always putting others first. He made each of his own children feel special, wanting the best for them at all times. Because of his integrity and outgoing personality, he was greatly loved and respected by those he came in contact with. Jerry was owner and operator of Carter's Transmission for 55 years and was formerly employed by Union Carbide for 7 years. He was a member of Apostolic House of Prayer and an ordained minister. He loved to play music and was a mechanical genius, inventor and builder. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Brenda Sue Carter; three daughters, Pat Mack, husband Arthur of Paducah, Janice Mack, husband Joseph of Paducah, Penny Bell, husband Donald of White House, Tenn.; two sons, Steve Carter, wife Debbie of Center City, Ky., and Adrion Davis, wife Bev of Bowling Green, Ky.; grandchildren, Tonya Sullenger and Emily Musselman of Paducah, Rachel Bell and Devon Bell of White House, Tenn., Michael Carter of Nashville, Andrea Davis and Lance Davis of Bowling Green, Ky., Steven Lee Jr. and Krystal Lee of Center City, Chase Davis of Suffolk, Va.; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Sam Carter of Kuttawa; four sisters, Nellie Carpenter, Pauline Sullivan, both of Kokomo, Ind., Martha Oakley of Kankakee, Ill., and Omega Curtain of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Addie Lee Carter; a daughter, Melissa Gail Carter; a son, Michael Davis; three sisters, Jean Lee, Lettie Schoumaker, and Jose Carter, and two brothers, Jesse Carter and David Carter.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 13, at Hughes Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Raymond Connor officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at 5 p.m. Friday, August 12, at the funeral home.
