Jack H. Carter, 83, of Mayfield died Friday, January 24, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Carter was a deacon and elder of First Christian Church in Mayfield. He was a retired Staff Sergeant in Communications for the U.S. Army, a life time member of American Legion, VFW and Disabled Veterans of America. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife, of 26 years, Annie Laura Carter; stepson, Owen Reed (Vickie) Malone of Beaver Dam, KY; step grandsons, Joshua Malone of Mayfield, Caleb Malone of Paducah, Zach (Ashley) Malone of Paducah and Michael (Jamie) Harrison of Hartford, KY; step granddaughter, April (James) Coffman of Owensboro, KY; five great grandchildren, and sisters, Bobbie Redden, Norma Helm and JoAnn (Julian) Howle, all of Mayfield.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Gertrude Canada Carter, and his brother Robert Junior Carter.
Funeral Services for Mr. Carter will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 27, 2014 at Byrn Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Mayfield Memory Gardens. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by American legion Post 26.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the funeral home.
