MAYFIELD - James Lee "Jimmy" Carter, 78, of Mayfield died at 6:47 a.m. Friday at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield.
He was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church and a retired saw mill operator for J.T. Mathis Sawmill in Clinton.
He is survived by his wife, Melinda O'Neal Carter; three daughters, Donna Lyell and Regina Burney, both of Mayfield, and Darlene Johnson of Murray; two sons, Randy Carter of Benton and Barry Carter of Mayfield; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Joe and Russell Carter; one brother; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His parents were Hubert Russell and Mary Marie Gilliam Carter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield with the Rev. Christopher Brady officiating. Burial will be in Mayfield Memory Gardens.
