James Mitchell Sr

James "Mitch" Bryant Mitchell Sr., 84, of Paducah, died Friday, February 22, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at his residence in Paducah.

James was a former member of the Ninth Street Tabernacle Ministries. He was a graduate of the former Lincoln High School and West Kentucky Vocational School where he was certified as a cobbler. James was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was formerly employed on the Delta Queen, Cole Electric and Lumber Company, and at the Paducah Country Club. Mitch also served on the Paxton Park Golf Commission.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Lee Patterson Mitchell; his mother, Louella Brown; one son, James Bryant Mitchell Jr.; and four sisters.

He is survived by one son, Connor Mitchell of Nashville, Tenn.; three daughters, Carolyn Mitchell of Matteson, Ill., Kathy Mitchell-Radford and Karen Mitchell, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Burks Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 635 Ohio Street, Paducah, Kentucky, with Reverend Charlene Boone and Reverend Eddie Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, March 1, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Burks Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
