James Taylor

James A. Taylor, 91, of Paducah died at 12:45 p.m. Sunday at his home.
Mr. Taylor retired from Illinois Central Gulf Railroad with 40 years of service. He was a member of Ware Memorial Church of God in Christ for 65 years, serving as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and church financial manager. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, district president of YPWW and a recipient of the National Deacon Award.
Surviving are three sons, James C. Taylor of Paducah, Robert L. Taylor of St. Louis and Charles E. Taylor of North Chicago, Ill.; three daughters, Bettye J. Baker and Christina Thompson, both of Aurora, Colo., and Gracie Nell Miles of Jeffersonville, Ind.; two brothers, Thad Taylor of Paducah and Sammie Taylor of West Paducah; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Gracie C. Taylor. His parents were Ambrose Taylor and Tennia Hayes Taylor.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Greater Love Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Marshall Chambers officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
