LAKELAND, Fla. - Joe H. Babb of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Paducah, Ky., went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 15, 2010.
Mr. Babb, a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Paducah, attended Cornerstone Baptist Church while in Lakeland.
A Korean War Veteran, he served in the Air Force, being stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. While in Dayton, he and 11 others felt God's call to start a Southern Baptist Church in East Dayton, this church is a thriving church today. Mr. Babb, one of two of the surviving charter members, was able to attend the church's 50th Anniversary, where he was honored.
He served his Lord in many other ways as a Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, serving on many committees including chairman of the Finance committee as Lone Oak First Baptist Church was being built. At Friendship Baptist Church, Mr. Babb served on the grounds committee, greeting committee and several other committees.
When Lone Oak Band was in the early beginnings, Mr. Babb served as President of the Band Boosters for several years, he was a Councilman of the City of Lone Oak and a Kentucky Colonel.
Mr. Babb was manager, personnel director, marketing director and salesman for the former Paducah Service Company. Many might remember him as "Joe Babb, the Carpet Car Man" as he would bring samples to your home and help you select your carpet. Even in his work environment, Mr. Babb showed his love for the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Ruth Lansford Babb; a son, Darrell Johnson; a brother, T. Julian Babb; and his parents, Thurman and Mary Mina Clark Babb.
Mr. Babb is survived by a daughter, Karen Weeks and husband John of Glen Allen, Va.; a grandson, Blake L. Weeks of Birmingham, Ala.; sister-in-law, Ruth H. Babb of Valdosta, Ga.; and last but not least, his faithful and loving companion dog, Jodee.
Services will be at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with visitation on Tuesday, December, 21, 2010, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Queen and Dr. Jason Browning officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
