John Riley Savells, 84, of Paducah, formerly of Columbus, Indiana, died at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Western Baptist Hospital.
Mr. Savells was a retired truck driver for North American Van Lines and was a former recent employee of Target Department Store in Columbus, Indiana, where he also attended clown school. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II and a member of American Legion of Columbus. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by two sons, Larry A. Savells and wife, Daisy of Paducah and John R. Savells and wife, Marlene of Kasson, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Lori Prather and husband, Dennis of Mayfield, Amy Rodgers and husband, Jason of Boaz, Jon Savells of Paducah, Derek Savells and James Savells; four great-grandchildren, Autumn Rodgers, Caleb Rodgers, Isabella Prather and Drake Prather; one sister, Lita Brown and husband, Oliver of Paducah; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. Savells and Ora S. Peck; one brother, Calvin H. Savells; and one sister, Necia Austin.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Hughes Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Elmer Crouch officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
