Martha Smith Murphy, 85, of Paducah died Friday at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born November 16, 1925, in Montgomery County, Tenn., to the late Leslie Homer and Lucy Power Smith. She spent the majority of her life happily taking care of her home, raising her children and spoiling her grandchildren. She was active in many parent organizations throughout her children's school years. She was named Mother of the Year by The Paducah Sun in an essay contest submitted by her daughter, Janet. Later, she worked for fifteen years in the service department at the local Sears warehouse. She was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Burlond Ralph Murphy; three children, Janet (Kenneth) Woodling of Houston, Michael (Brenda) Murphy of Paducah and Douglas Murphy of Floyds Knobs, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Kellie Ann Woodling, Katherine Woodling, Kerry Murphy, Kyle Murphy, Timothy (Candace) Murphy, Erin Murphy and Emily Murphy; and her sister, Lucille Tuell of Taylorsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18th, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Larry Walker officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
