Richard H. Mitchell, age 82, of Paducah, Ky., passed away at 6:18 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Wayne Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military rites provided by American Legion Post #31.
Richard was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, a lifetime member of American Legion Post #31, a member of United Steelworkers Local #550 and a member of Margaret Hank Memorial Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Over the course of his lifetime, Richard donated over 25 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross in local blood drives. He was a patriotic man with a green thumb. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, grilling, and laughing with his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Feezor Mitchell; two children, one daughter, Penny Mayes of Springfield, Missouri, and one son, Richard Lee Mitchell and wife Mary of Paducah; two grandchildren, Paul McCartney Mitchell of Jupiter, Florida, and Michelle Mayes of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters, Clara Weitlauf of Florida and Mary Sakelaris of Granite City, Illinois; and one brother, Thurman "Tim" Mitchell of Paducah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Crenshaw and Lurline Dunn Mitchell; one sister, Marie Pedigo; and one brother, Herman Crenshaw Mitchell Jr.
Visitation for Richard H. Mitchell will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2010, from 5-8 p.m. at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
