Ruth Lansford Babb went to her heavenly home Friday, August 13, 2010, after suffering a severe stroke. She passed away at Lakeland Regional Hospital.
Before moving to Lakeland, Fla., Mrs. Babb was a lifelong resident of Paducah and an active member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she served on several committees. She worked as a teller at the West End Branch of Peoples Bank and then at the Lone Oak Branch, where she also served as the branch secretary.
Mrs. Babb enjoyed going to church, Gospel singings, entertaining friends, and serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. While in Lakeland she attended Cornerstone Baptist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Joe H. Babb; a daughter, Karen Weeks and her husband, John, of Glenn Allen of Virginia; a grandson, Blake Lansford Weeks of Birmingham Ala.; one sister-in-law, Ruth Harper Babb of Paducah; a niece, Verlinda Newton of Cobden, Ill.; a nephew, Gordon McCluskey of Madison, Wis.; great-nieces, Dr. Jeannie Mitchell of Carbondale, Ill., and Dr. Dawn McCluskey of Madison, Wis.; a great-great-nephew, Bryce Collins of Carbondale, Ill.; great-great-nieces, Ellie and Alexia Harris of Madison, Wis.; and we can't leave out her faithful dog, Jodie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Clara Brasher Lansford; a brother, Edward Lansford; and three sisters, Afton Gray, Evalyn McCluskey and Genevieve Waldon.
Funeral services for Mrs. Babb will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with the Revs. Frank Queen and Jason Browning officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. today, August 18, 2010.
