Thomas Hassel Lamb, 88, of Mayfield, died Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 3:40 AM at Mills Manor Health and Rehab, where he had been a resident for a short time.
Mr. Lamb was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Mayfield, where he served faithfully for many years as an usher and caretaker of the church grounds. He was a retiree from Continental General Tire, where he worked for 20 years as a boiler operator. He retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 22 years, serving in WWII, the Korean War, and early years of the Vietnam War. As a veteran, he proudly displayed the U.S. flag on his truck during his daily travels in and around Mayfield.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Linda C. Turner Lamb, as well as three sons, Rev. Michael P. (Devonda) Wilford, of the Golo community. Steve "Leroy" Lamb, of Mayfield, and Jeff (Anastasia) Lamb of Fancy Farm. Also surviving is one daughter, Mayor Teresa (Mike) Cantrell, of Mayfield.
He is also survived by three brothers, James T. Lamb, of Paducah, Homer (Mary) Lamb, of LaCenter, and Bill Lamb, of Mayfield. Also surviving is one sister Lala May, of Mayfield.
Surviving also are seven grandchildren: Adrienne Dorris, of Carthage, Texas, Sarah (Josh) Sullivan, of Owensboro, Nathan (Casie) Lamb , of Mayfield, Kristin (Kirk) Pippin, of Athens, Alabama, Katelyn (Matt) Fondaw, of Benton, Tyler Cantrell, of Elizabethtown, and Michelle Cantrell, of Mayfield.
Also surviving are six great-grandchildren: James Lamb, Audrie Lamb, and Zacharie Lamb, all of Mayfield; Jacob Aldana, Morgan Aldana, and Cheyenne Caldwell of Dallas, Texas, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lamb was preceded in death by his parents, Toscoe E. and Beulah Dee Carter Lamb, a sister, Linda Faye, and a brother, Leon Lamb.
Services will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 16, at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1200 West Broadway, Mayfield, with Rev. Steve Melvin officiating. Burial will be at Mayfield Memory Gardens, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Post #26.
Friends may call from 5:00 PM till 9:00 PM on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield. the body will lie in state from 9:00 AM till 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Church.
