Velbert J. (V.J.) Henry, 77, of Paducah, passed away at 2:05 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2013, at Lourdes hospital.
He was a retired self-employed contractor, a member of American Legion Post 31, Southside Eagles Club 3135, VFW of Paducah, Army veteran during Korean War and of the Pentecostal Faith.
Mr. Henry is survived by three sons, Velbert Dwayne Henry (Valerie) of Paducah, Vincent Edward Henry (Melissa) of Paducah and Douglas Alan Henry (April) of Calvert City; daughter, Michelle Lynn Henry (David Sr.) of Paducah; three brothers, Alvin Henry of Potosa, Mo., Raymond Henry of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., and Edward Henry of Potosa, Mo.; three sisters, Doris Gardner of Sun Valley, Calif., Wilma Wright of Potosa, Mo. and Marie Gamble of Potosa, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Gregory Henry, David Henry JR., Heather Henry, Michael Henry, Tiffany Henry, Jesscilyn Henry, Alan Henry, Chase Cavitt and Kayla Cavitt; and four great-grandchildren, Jeremy Henry, Lillie Henry, TaSean Henry and Alexander Castellanos.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann Henry; parents, Earl Edward Henry and Beulah Faye (Sparks) Henry; stepmother, Margaret Avie Henry; son, Paul L. Henry; grandson, Timothy Dwayne Henry; granddaughter, Clarissa R. Henry; and six brothers, Junior Henry, Cecil Henry, Freddie Henry, Melvin Henry, Jimmy Henry, Alfred Henry.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. noon Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Hughes Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Joel Aldrich officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Paducah with military rites.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2013, at the funeral home.
