Vernon A. "Jack" Chapman Jr., 86, of Paducah passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Chapman was a chemical engineer for 37 years with Martin Marietta and a retired U.S. Air Force Major with 20 years of service. He served as a bombardier and navigator during World War II. Mr. Chapman was an Elder Emeritus with First Christian Church in Paducah, where he served as Chairman of the Administrative Board, as a Sunday School teacher with 30 years of service and as a choir member for 37 years.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Jane Shelby Chapman; one son, Michael Lee Chapman of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter, Cynthia (Clark) Von Nyvenheim of North Augusta, S.C.; five grandchildren, Carter, Garrett and Ryland Chapman and Brandon and Chrissy Von Nyvenheim; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Gertrude Chapman, and one brother, Dr. Jean Chapman.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Roth Funeral Chapel, with interment following at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour Thursday at the funeral home.
