Violet Marie Sample Pearson was born March 19, 1919 in a one room cabin in River Sioux, Iowa to Rhoden Rosell and Mary Jane Dungan Sample. She passed away July 16, 2010 at Parkview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was 91 years old. On that stormy Friday afternoon, her family lost one of the lights of their lives. She was afraid of storms, yet while one raged, the Lord brought her peace. Heaven will be a little brighter with her presence.
Proudly, she served as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska. She was a member of Lone Oak Church of Christ. She will be remembered as a hard-working, brave and strong lady throughout her long life, slowed only by the infirmities of old age. Her many talents included gardening and sewing. She enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, the harder the better so only the New York Times would do. However, her family was her greatest joy. Her family and friends were blessed to have been loved by her warm and generous heart.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest Pearson, with whom this past week she had just celebrated 14 years of marriage; three daughters, Sandra Johannes Burgen and husband Arthur of Paducah, Jonnie Thomas Lore and husband James of Ypsilanti, Mich., Jeri Thomas Parks and husband Dave of Leonard, Texas; two sons, Floyd Thomas and Randall Thomas, both of Missouri Valley, Iowa; her sister, Juanita Truesdell of Ankeny, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Richie of Fort Branch, Ind.; a stepson, Michael Pearson of Patoka, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her former husbands, Matthew Johannes, Arthur Thomas and Orren McCullough; her brother, Leroy Sample; her son, Billy Thomas, and one nephew.
